A group of sophomores from Firestone Community Learning Center in Akron  spent a week at �Ը������� University exploring university programs and learning more about college and careers.

With a shared mission to help the youth in Akron earn a life-changing education, �Ը������� University has teamed up with the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) to provide LJFF’s I PROMISE students with increased resources to help prepare them for college and beyond. As part of this long-term partnership, �Ը������� has committed to providing specialized programming to help I PROMISE students remain on target to graduate from high school and fully eligible for the college scholarships that have been committed to them.

A green roof, a geothermal heating and cooling system that is 300 percent more efficient than standard systems, and a 15,000-gallon gray tank that recycles rainwater for irrigation and flushing bathroom fixtures. These are just a few of the sustainability features that helped �Ը������� University’s Center for Architecture and Environmental Design receive LEED Platinum recognition.  

George R. Newkome, Ph.D., and his wife, Mary Jane Saunders, Ph.D., have pledged $1 million to fund a first-ever professorship in materials science in �Ը������� University’s College of Arts and Sciences. Dr. Newkome is a two-time �Ը������� alumnus.

Those were the messages that actor Michael Keaton shared with �Ը������� University graduates taking part in the One University Commencement on Saturday, May 12. Mr. Keaton, an Academy Award-nominated actor and �Ը������� alumnus, delivered the address at Dix Stadium before a standing room-only crowd of more than 21,000 people.
