First-year students arrived Aug. 19 to a campus buzzing with welcome — parent cars lined up, moving carts stacked high and volunteers from Movers and Groovers ready to help families haul everything from clothes and mirrors to shelves and stools.

For 20 years, Main Street Kent has worked to make downtown a place students want to explore – from Flashes First Friday to Oktoberfest to public art – helping Kent earn recognition as the No. 1 college town in Ohio.

Melody Tankersley, �Ը�������’s executive vice president and provost, drew on “Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood” to share five leadership lessons with summer 2026 graduates at the August commencement.

A foot injury ended Jaden Hacking’s track career – and introduced him to podiatric medicine. Now an exercise science major at �Ը�������, he’s on the pathway to studying at the university’s College of Podiatric Medicine, drawn by both the impact on patients and the profession’s work-life balance.

Saloni Christian planned on traditional medical school until a suturing workshop introduced her to podiatry as a junior at �Ը�������. Now a student at �Ը�������’s College of Podiatric Medicine, she’s set to graduate in 2027 with an eye toward ankle surgery and wound care.

Ayat Husain grew up with flat feet – and grew curious about the doctors who treat them. Now a student at �Ը�������’s College of Podiatric Medicine, she’s on track to graduate in 2027 and hopes to help patients get back on their feet, literally and figuratively.

�Ը������� University has announced the implementation of a new Clear Bag Policy for all home ticketed events, beginning this fall with the 2026 football season. The policy is designed to enhance venue security, reduce wait times at entry points, and provide a safer environment for fans, guests, and student-athletes.

Is social media making Gen Z less social? The Akron Beacon Journal explored that question in a recent feature centered on �Ը������� University Senior Lecturer Aaron Maguire and his Communication and Conflict Management course in the School of Communication Studies.

�Ը������� University will welcome more than 1,000 new graduates to its alumni family during summer commencement on Aug. 8. The ceremony, held at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center, will confer 1,010 degrees across associate, bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral and educational specialist levels.
