ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ Salem Students Showcase Research Projects

Salem, Ohio – ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ University at Salem held its fall Undergraduate Research Conference, an event that recognizes students for their research and allows them to share what they learned through discussions with the academic staff. This year, there were 56 presentations given by a combined total of 70 students.

The conference is open to all undergraduates in any discipline and in any for-credit course at the Salem campus. Faculty judges evaluate the presentations based on originality; significance; evidence of learning about the research and information gathering process; and overall quality.

The winners of the 2014 Undergraduate Research Conference are:

Long oral presentations - First place: Genna Sink for β€œPostpartum Depression and its Effects on Parent Child Relationships;” second place: Austin Cope for β€œFirst Generation College Students: Social Challenges;” third place: Mariana Bonish for β€œThe Use of College Mentors in Changing Perception of Healthy Eating among Appalachian Adolescents.”

Short oral presentations – First place: Cameron Brinker for β€œAdolescent Minds, Masculinity, and Self-Confidence;” second place: Caleb Huffman for β€œHealth and Happiness: A Demonstration Using 3 Statistical Techniques,” third place: Heidi Woolweaver for β€œThe Acute Effects Caffeine has on the Anxiety Levels of Older Female and Male College Students.”

Poster presentations – First place: Stacie Arnold for β€œThe Foot Steps of Tomorrow: Parenting Techniques;” second place: Jessica Sands, Sylvia Cintron and Angela Ruthrauff for β€œImproving ADHA with Diet and Exercise;” third place: Joey-Lynn Corfee, Paige Mountz and Sierra Hull for β€œImportance of Game Play in Preschool.”

ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ University at East Liverpool announces that Yvonne Trotter, Ph.D., is the recipient of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Larry Froehlich, Ph.D., is receiving the 2026 Friend of ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ University at East Liverpool Award. Also at the event, the East Liverpool Masonic Temple received the Community Partner Award, recognizing its support of ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ East Liverpool students and community outreach. 

ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ University at East Liverpool recognized the academic achievements of several students during its annual campus awards banquet, while also honoring the service of faculty, staff and community leaders.

The awards and recipients are:

ΠΤΈ£ΞεΤΒΜμ University at Salem recently presented John Tonti the Friend of the Campus award, the highest honor presented annually to non-students. It recognizes community members, businesses and organizations that support increasing access to higher education in Salem and surrounding communities.

Tonti is the president of the Salem Community Foundation, a position he has held since 1992. He began his tenure with the organization in 1981 as its treasurer.
