Weeks of Welcome

Kick off your fall 2026 semester strong!

After KSU Kickoff, your involvement journey outside of the classroom here continues! Through this coordinated Weeks of Welcome program that goes from Sunday, Aug. 30 through Saturday, October 3, students have the opportunity to engage in countless programs, initiatives, events, and services that:

  • Find Your Sense of Belonging -- Feel a strong sense of belonging to both the campus and surrounding communities.
  • Increase Community Involvement -- Familiarize oneself with the Kent and surrounding community and how to get involved as a citizen.   • Enhance Academic Success -- Prepare for academic excellence.

Week One: Aug. 30 - Sept. 5

SUNDAY, AUGUST 30 -- CUYAHOGA RIVER KAYAKING TRIP 

  • Come paddle with the Adventure Center on the historic Cuyahoga River (at Kramer Fields in downtown Kent)!
  • The fee includes transportation from the Rec. Center, all equipment, and instruction.
  • Contact adventurecenter@kent.edu with any questions.
  • Meet at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center at 2 p.m. This event will end at 5 p.m.

TUESDAY, AUGUST 30 -- FLASH ACTIVITIES BOARD'S (FAB) SUNSET YOGA

  • Stop by the Student Green to join for their sunset yoga!
  • This event is free to participate for all. 
  • There will be two, one-hour yoga sessions within this event facilitated by a credentialed instructor from Recreation and Wellness Services.
  • This event is from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Student Green.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2 -- LEADERS LUNCH CLUB

  • Join the Pepsi Leadership Center for Leaders Lunch Club, a unique opportunity to connect with influential leaders from the 性福五月天 and local community. 
  • Each session features an inspiring speaker sharing their personal leadership journey, insights, and actionable advice to help you grow as a leader. 
  • With a variety of leadership topics throughout the year, you鈥檒l leave with fresh perspectives and valuable takeaways. 
  • We will host a new speaker each month! 
  • Spots are limited to 40 students 鈥 stay tuned for more speaker announcements and save your seat at the table!

  • This program courtesy of the Adventure Center covers the basics of indoor climbing, including equipment, bouldering, top rope climbing, and belaying with an ATC and Gri-gri device.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 -- DISCOVER FASHION DAY

  • Hosted by the School of Fashion, stop by for the School of Fashion Prospective Day to discover the prestige of our world-class programs. 
  • You will attend a group informational session to learn more about programs, curriculum, and requirements. 
  • You will also engage in a Q&A with academic advisors and a student panel. 
  • The visit includes a tour of the building and facilities, including a chance to explore the 性福五月天 University Museum!

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 -- MANDATORY STUDENT ORGANIZATION TRAINING

  • Since Blastoff and the start of classes, have you joined a student organization or club on campus? If this describes you, make sure to join the Student Organization Support team for Mandatory Student Organization Training! 
  • Topics to include leadership styles, scheduling basics, funding sources, and more! 
  • Send a minimum of two officers and your group will qualify for a chance to win up to $250 for an organization event! 
  • Two groups will win this prize. Access to the Student Organization Training registration form will be shared with groups after successful re-registration in KSU Engage.

  • The 7,000+ seat ballpark, located in downtown Akron, provides an interactive and fun experience for any type of baseball fan.

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5 -- STAND UP PADDLEBOARDING TRIP

  • The Adventure Center will be going to West Branch State Park for a beginner-friendly stand up paddleboard float. 
  • There is beautiful scenery, wildlife, and fresh air to take in while on the water. 
  • There will provide an introduction to paddleboarding before they get on the water, going over lake safety, paddling strokes, and more! 
  • The fee includes transportation from the Rec. Center, all equipment and instruction.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9 -- International Student Lunch Conversations

  • Come for free lunch and connection with other students about life as an international student in the U.S. and at KSU.

  • Join FAB for their first trivia of the year! 
  • There will be five rounds with five different categories to show off your knowledge and win some amazing prizes bundles.
  • The categories include STEM, History & Geography, Sports, Pop Culture, and 性福五月天 trivia.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 -- RECOVERY & ROUTINE WORKSHOP -- BUILD YOUR RESET PLAN

  • Courtesy of the Collegiate Recovery System workshop to help students build a routine that supports their recovery, well-being, and academic goals. 
  • In this interactive workshop, students will create a personalized reset plan that includes time for classes, sleep, physical activity, recovery support, social connection, and fun. 
  • Participants will leave with a practical written schedule they can use throughout the semester.
  • This workshop is in Van Campen Hall from 1 - 3 p.m. 

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11 -- KENT STATE FIELD HOCKEY VERSUS MICHIGAN STATE UNIVERSITY

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22 -- THERAPEUTIC JOURNALING WORKSHOP

  • Journaling isn鈥檛 just about writing鈥攊t鈥檚 a powerful way to sort through thoughts, emotions, and life experiences. 
  • It can boost memory, lower stress, and even improve your overall well-being. 
  • In this hands-on CAPS workshop, you鈥檒l learn simple strategies for therapeutic journaling, and have time to practice.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 -- LIVING WITH LOSS SUPPORT GROUP

  • CAPS' Living with Loss is a support group for students who have experienced the death of a loved one. 
  • It offers a caring space to connect with other students who understand what it's like to lose someone. 
  • The group can provide a sense of community, help you feel less isolated, and encourage healing through compassion and support.鈥
  • It's always your choice how much you share. Whether your loss happened recently or years ago, you are welcome. Meetings are held weekly on Wednesdays
  • You don鈥檛 need to sign up to come to meetings 鈥 simply show up!

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 23 -- WELLNESS WEDNESDAY

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 -- DISTRACTED? UNDERSTANDING ADHD WORKSHOP

  • Can鈥檛 focus? Constantly juggling a million tabs (literally and mentally)? This CAPS workshop breaks down what ADHD really is鈥攚ith topics like brain functioning, hyperactivity, and impulsivity鈥攁nd how it shows up in everyday college life. 
  • We鈥檒l talk about time management, organization, decision-making, and even relationships. 
  • You鈥檒l also learn practical strategies like mindfulness and other skills to help you get a handle on distractions and boost focus. No ADHD diagnosis needed鈥攊f you鈥檙e curious, you鈥檙e welcome!

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24 -- DINNERS WITH FRIENDS

  • Dinner with Friends is a program hosted by Civic and Community Engagement in the Center for Student Involvement, 性福五月天 Votes, and Undergraduate Student Government that is designed to connect different members of our community鈥攕tudents, faculty, and staff鈥攖hrough engaging, facilitated conversations over dinner. 
  • The program鈥檚 core idea isn鈥檛 about being an expert on any given subject or even producing a plan at the end of the conversation but instead prioritizes the act of conversing and building connections with people you might not ordinarily meet. 
  • We'll spend the evening connecting and learning about each other鈥檚 experiences. 
  • The program will consist of four facilitated small group conversations, each of which will be lightly organized around one of four different topics that will be announced closer to the program date. 
  • In the past, topics have included responding to food insecurity, supporting mental health in challenging times, finding community on campus and beyond, and advancing environmental sustainability. 
  • Catered dinner provided. Registration is limited. Due to the nature of the program, participants must commit to being present for the entire event when registering.

  • Does your inner critic need a mute button? In this CAPS workshop, learn how to quiet that inner critic and swap self-judgment for self-compassion. 
  • You'll discover simple, real-life strategies to handle daily stress with more kindness, and you'll leave with practical tools you can actually use. 
  • You'll also make your own mini painting to take home as a reminder to practice self-compassion. 
  • No artistic talent necessary! All supplies are provided by CAPS.
